My Personal Game

.
,
Before I get into any of the main basketball content for this blog, I need to tell you guys a little bit about myself.

I haven't played basketball my entire life. In fact, I didn't play for an organized team until 8th grade. In 8th grade, though, my love for the game skyrocketed. I went from being too nervous to try out the team in middle school to, just this past year, starting on the Freshman team with kids who played all throughout their lives. I did this by practicing every day, and by 9th grade (this school year), I've been practicing for about 3 hours every single day. I have also been lifting weights every few days to get stronger and faster. I have been pushing my body to its limits.

I'm still nowhere near where I want to be in the basketball world. Of course, I still lack the confidence that the other players have. This is one of the things that I need to improve by constantly putting myself in situations that I'm not comfortable in. I think I have a lot to prove still before I can be the best player on my high school team and hopefully aim for an academic and athletic college future. I have the skills right now, but I need to do them consistently and with more confidence still.
Now, let's get into the details about my basketball skills. I'm the shortest player on my team and that's the biggest reason why I lack confidence. It doesn't matter how much you train because, in basketball, if you're short, you're going to have to change up your shot all the time to not get blocked and still make it. Overall, though, I can clearly take control over other players when I'm "in my zone", confident, and warmed up. I've done this before, even against the best varsity players.

So, here is some footage of my game. I commonly practice like this every day, from game speed situations, to dribbling, to shooting fast, and all of that good stuff (including fundamental drills). This footage is a few weeks old and I have improved slightly over the few weeks. My form has gone from being set at the chin to higher up. Also, I’ve been working on constantly pound dribbling and dribbling even lower to not get the ball stripped.
My game is primarily based on ballhandling and attacking the basket with a layup or pullup jumper for the finish. I've been working on my shot, too, and hopefully, by next basketball season, I'll be able to shoot much more consistently and extremely well. I also need to work on finishing under pressure, and being able to finish at any angle; being 5'7 makes this a necessity. My shooting will also have to improve. Last but not least, I plan on upping my hour of practice every day to about 3-4 for basketball, then 1-2 for weightlifting and athleticism training. To not overuse my body, on days that I practice or play basketball for 3 hours, I'll get one to two hours in weightlifting or athletic training. On days that I practice basketball for 4 hours, I might do half an hour to an hour of athletic training. On top of all this, I must stretch and take care of my body even more.

On the bright side, I recently got the Wilson Evolution basketball, which I truly love. It feels better to handle than any other ball.

Now, as a 15 year old student-athlete that's 5'7, things can be discouraging. Doubt can take over your mind. When you know you're not anywhere close to even being considered for college basketball it can be rough. But, in my opinion, basketball can teach you so much more, even if you don't achieve the goals you really want. If you take the game seriously and truly love it (not getting mad when things don't go right and still training hard) you'll learn to have a great work ethic and go far in life.
One of my favorite speeches is by Ryan Trahan, a Youtuber. At his valedictorian speech, he spoke about society's mass thinking. Everyone believes that you should be successful... but not too successful. Nobody believes you can make the pros, become the president, become a billionaire... society is programmed to not believe in you because of the odds. Society bases its thinking on the average person.

I am not the average person.

If you are reading this, you are not the average person.

Everyone has something they love. Explore your passions. Work hard. Change the world. It's possible. After all, the people that are successful are the same species as you and me, so we must be capable of the same things no matter what you think or hear. Go far in life.

Here are some of the videos that have inspired me throughout the years to continue to chase greatness.

Of course, I've been inspired by many basketball Youtubers, like Hoop and Life, In The Lab, Kickgenius (RIP to that group), and many others. I love how the basketball community is so inspiring and social.

Anyways, that's all I have for this post on my game. Stay tuned for upcoming posts with basketball content.

Intro

Progression is one of the greatest feelings in the world, whether it be in careers, sports, or anything else. When you can visibly see your improvement over time it can be so satisfying. The best satisfaction comes from getting good or even elite at something you truly love.

In my case, my passion is basketball.

Different concepts, drills, my daily routines, and anything else I think of related to the game of basketball will be posted here. I’ll try to release the most quality content and engage viewers.  Stick around for upcoming posts and videos.
